Bro. Deryl Barnett is a native of Kansas City, KS. He is the son of the Rev. Odis and Alice Barnett. Deryl knew he was being called by God and tried to run from the call. Then, one Tuesday night in a healing and consecration service, while sitting in his seat, the voice of the Lord spoke again through the man of God, “My son, I have a work for you to do.” He then humbled his heart and received Jesus Christ as his Personal Savior and Lord of his life. He was immediately filled with Holy Ghost.
He has never played a musical instrument prior to this time. In fact, his interests were not musically oriented, but through the laying on of hands by his Pastor, Bishop Daniel M. Jordan, God imparted to Deryl, the gift of music and a special anointing to play the saxophone. Since that time, Deryly has dedicated his horn and life to the service of the Lord and gospel music. People have been saved, filled and healed. Listeners have been set free and delivered, uplifted and encourage through the power of the Holy Spirit and the anointing of almighty God working through Deryl’s ministry of music. Deryl was educated in the public schools of Kansas City, KS. He later attended the Kansas City Kansas Community College and was selected as one of the “Outstanding Men of America” by the U.S. Jaycees in 1976.
Deryl has proven to be quite an outstanding musician in the Kansas City area. Additionally, he has traveled across the nation and the world. He has appeared with such artist as Mrs. Sarah Jordan Powell, Andrae’ Crouch, the late Mattie Moss Clark & The Clark Sisters, Rev. James Cleveland, Mr. Edwin & Walter Hawkins Singers, Bishop Noel Jones, Rev. Gene Martin & The Action Revival Team, Mr. Keith Pringle, Mr. Wintley Phipps, Mr. Stevie Wonder, Mr. Billy Preston & Mr. Billy D. Williams, & Ms. Danniebelle Hall, Mr. D. J. Rogers, Mrs. Reba Rambo, Miss America 1980 Ms. Cheryl Prewitt, Mr. Tim Shepherd, Mr. Rusty Goodman, and has made special appearances before such great political speakers as U.S. President Ronald Reagan, President Desmond Toto of Africa, Rev. Martin Luther King Sr., Rev. Jesse Jackson, First Black Female Senator the late Ms. Shirley Chisholm, U.S. Civil Rights Commission, Dr. Mary Frances Berry, First Black Mayor of Chicago, IL, Mr. Harold Washington, Kansas City, MO Mayor & US Congressman Rev. Emanuel Cleaver. Also Deryl has appeared and performed before the Council of Bishops of the African Methodist Episcopal Conference and Conventions, the National Baptist Convention, the Churches of God in Christ Convocations and has also ministered with The Winans.
After being under the watch care and leadership of Bishop Daniel M. Jordan and the late First Lady Mary Jordan, Deryl felt lead to inspire other young people to do the work of the Lord. He is now under the leadership of Dr. Spencer Booker, Senior Pastor of the Bethel A.M.E. Church of Kansas City, MO & Pastor Andrew Foster of Greater Jerusalem Baptist Church where he works faithfully in the Music Ministry. Senior Pastor of the Bethel A.M.E.
